One of my favorite parts of a kitchen remodel is to select is the backsplash.  It really sets the tone of the style of the kitchen and pulls all the other selections together.  I always try to encourage my clients to do something special in the backsplash.  It is usually a small space, so if you are going to splurge anywhere to make a statement, this is a good place to start.

Yes, the backsplash has a serious function in a kitchen.  It’s there to protect and help maintain the space between the counter and the bottom of the cabinets.

So how much can be done in only 18″ of vertical space, you ask?  Plenty!  Take a look.

A Remodeler’s Guide to Kitchen Backsplash Styles

“Burberry” Tile Kitchen Backsplash

This client wanted offbeat sophistication.  We had a pattern custom mixed from Daltile to look like Burberry.

Mixed Media

Here we have a combination of porcelain, stone, glass and metal.  A simple picture frame of tile with metal accents lends some interest to the space.

Colorful Quartzite

A natural quartzite stone was used as the field tile for this backsplash because it has a natural mix of color and texture.  A sneaky way to bring in some other colors without commitment.

Modern Marvel

This kitchen boasts simple horizontal lines which accents the horizontal hardware and minimal design.

Charming Cottage Look

Pale-colored basket weave and hopscotch pattern works well with the creamy shaker cabinets.  The light tones make the pattern soft, not fussy.

I’ll have some more backsplash ideas for you real soon!

Until then, happy remodeling!
