Water In Yard – A Natural Issue Or Plumbing Problems?

Blog Image

Your home is your safety and security. You want to make sure that it looks nice all the time and that nothing happens that will cause a lot of damage to the whole home. But if you have water that sits on your lawn, especially if it is near the foundation of the home, it can cause a lot of headaches along the way.

The first thing to consider is whether it is a natural issue or a plumbing problem in your home. Once you know what the problem is, you will be able to do the necessary steps to get it fixed. No matter the reason for finding water in your yard that just sits there, here are some of the ways that you can help prevent this water and get it out of the way.

Consider the Landscaping

Take a look at some of the landscaping around your home to see if this causes water to pool up near it. If there are large holes in your yard or you see that the landscaping is leaning towards the home, then this is where the water will go. Your goal is to have a slight lean away from the home and keep the rest relatively smooth.

Sometimes you will need to do some work to the landscaping to make sure that it will work the way that you want. This means that it might be time to call in a professional landscaper to help you take care of the landscaping for you. They can take a look at your own unique yard to see what is going to work the best for you.

There are a lot of really great steps that you can take to help improve the look of your home while making sure that you do not have a lot of water sitting in the yard. It will just depend on how your lawn actually looks.

Look at the Gutters

The next thing that you need to look at is the gutters. If they are full of leaves and other things because you have not cleaned them out, or the drainage pipe does not go far enough away from the home, then it is possible that the water will end up puddling right next to the home and cause damage.

First, we need to look at the gutters being clogged in the first place. If you have not cleaned out the gutters in some time, then this is probably your biggest problem. Leaves and sticks and other debris can get stuck in the gutters, making it hard for the water to get through and go down the pipes.

Instead, the water will overflow over the top of the gutters and fall right on the edge of your home. This can lead to a bunch of foundation problems if you do not get the issue handled. Taking the time to clean out the gutters and make them look clean and clear will make a difference and will ensure that the water does not pile up.

Always make sure that the drain of the gutters leads away from the home. If it is a short spout that ends right by the home, then you run into the same problem as before. Link it up to direct the water as far away from the home as possible to be safe.

Add a Drainage System

One of the methods that you can use to help improve the water drainage in your yard is to put in a drainage system. If the water is stuck in one location in your yard and will not move easily, then a trench drain system is going to be one of the best options that you can use to prevent the water from sitting there.

With the right drainage system in place, the water will be moved to the part of the yard that you want, or even to the street. You can choose which direction you would like the water to move to, based on what works the best for your home.

There are a lot of options that you can choose when it comes to creating a good drainage system. Think about what works the best with your own yard to get the great look that you want. Point the water away from the home and see what you can do to make it better.

Check the Plumbing

For the most part, the issues that come up with water in the yard will come from your landscaping and where the water goes after it rains. You can make sure that the landscaping and drainage systems move the water away from the home to make sure that it stays as safe and secure as possible.

However, there are times when the plumbing may be the issue at hand. If the plumbing in your home is not doing its job well, then there is a chance that you are getting water problems from there. If you have tried some of the other solutions and they do not seem to work, or you suspect plumbing from the start, then it is time to call in a professional plumber.

The right plumber will be able to come over and take a look at your plumbing, determining whether this is the main issue at hand or not. This is one of the most effective ways to ensure that your home stays safe and secure and that water is not allowed to stick around and cause problems. Get the plumbing checked as soon as possible to be safe.

Preventing Water in Your Yard

No homeowner wants to find a lot of water in their yard. This is a dangerous thing and can ruin the foundation of the home and allow lots of unsavory insects to come around and harass everyone as well. With the right drainage system in place and a proactive choice, you will be able to prevent water from sitting in your yard for long.
